Which Shopify inventory quantity does Synkro sync?

Synkro syncs the "Available" inventory quantity between stores. Learn why "On hand" and "Committed" quantities are store-specific and are not synced.

Created on September 4, 2026

For some of our variants, the Available quantity is 0 in both stores, but the On hand quantity is different. When I manually change the On hand quantity from 1 to 0, Shopify changes the Available quantity to -1. Which Shopify inventory state does Synkro actually synchronize, Available or On hand? And how does Synkro handle Committed/reserved inventory?

Shopify’s On hand inventory is a calculated value based on Committed + Available. The Available inventory is the one which your online store uses to determine how much of an item is available for purchase. Committed is a store-specific value based on the number of unfulfilled orders for the item in the store. Because of this, On hand is also a store-specific value, since it relies on Committed.

Synkro only syncs the Available inventory because this is the one which is important to avoid overselling. On hand and Committed are not synced because they are store-specific. It is actually not possible to edit Committed inventory in Shopify directly.

This is why the Available quantity can be identical between your stores while the On hand quantity differs: each store has its own Committed quantity from its own unfulfilled orders. It also explains why manually reducing On hand from 1 to 0 changed Available to -1. Because On hand = Committed + Available, lowering On hand while an order is still committed pushes Available below zero.

For the purpose of avoiding overselling, the syncing of Available inventory is ideal.
