## Overview

Synkro lets you decide exactly which product and variant properties it keeps in sync between your connected stores. These choices live in two places within your Synkro settings, under the **Syncing options** section:

- **Global sync settings** — your account-wide defaults, applied to every store connected under your Synkro account.
- **Store-level sync settings** — per-store overrides that let you disable syncing for specific properties in a single store, without changing your account-wide defaults.

Together, these settings give you fine-grained control over what Synkro treats as a "syncable" change.

## How sync settings relate to product cloning

It's important to understand the difference between the **initial clone** of a product and **ongoing syncing** of that product's properties.

When Synkro clones a product using the [Product Cloning tool](https://www.synkro-app.com/documentation/product-cloning.md), **all** of the product's data is copied to the destination store as part of that initial clone — regardless of your sync settings. Your sync settings do not limit what gets included when a product is first created.

After the initial clone, your **Global sync settings** (and any **Store-level sync settings**) determine whether a *future change* to a property should sync. For example, if you disable **Price** syncing, future price changes in one store will no longer propagate to other products in connected stores — but a freshly cloned product will still arrive with the price intact.

> In short: cloning includes everything once; sync settings govern what happens to changes from that point forward.

## Global sync settings

Your Global sync settings are the account-wide defaults for which fields Synkro will sync between stores. If you don't want a particular field to sync, you can disable it here and the change applies to every store connected under your Synkro account.

### Accessing your Global sync settings

From your Synkro settings, open the **Syncing options** section in the left sidebar and click **Global sync settings**.

There are two groups of settings on this page: **Variant property sync settings** and **Product property sync settings**.

### Variant property sync settings

These settings control which product **variant** properties Synkro syncs *within* and *between* your stores for variants that share the same **SKU** (or **Barcode**, depending on your [syncing identifier](https://www.synkro-app.com/documentation/sync-inventory-between-stores.md#sync-by-barcode-instead-of-sku)).

| Variant property | What it controls |
| --- | --- |
| Inventory Level | The available stock quantity for the variant |
| Price | The variant's selling price |
| Compare at price | The "compare at" (original) price shown alongside the selling price |
| Cost per item | The cost (COGS) recorded for the variant |
| HS (Harmonized System) code | The customs / harmonized system code used for international shipping |
| Country/Region and Province of origin | The declared country and province of origin used for customs |
| Track inventory | Whether Shopify tracks the quantity for the variant |
| Inventory policy | Whether the variant can continue selling when out of stock |
| Requires shipping | Whether the variant is a physical, shippable product |
| Weight | The variant's weight |
| Weight unit (lb, oz, kg, g) | The unit used for the variant's weight |
| Taxable | Whether tax is charged on the variant |
| Position | The variant's position (order) within the product |
| Options | The variant's option values (e.g. Size, Color) |
| SKU | The variant's SKU value |
| Barcode | The variant's barcode (UPC, ISBN, etc.) |

### Product property sync settings

These settings control which product-level properties Synkro syncs between your stores. Synkro only syncs product property changes from **parent to child**, where the child product was created by Synkro via the [Product Cloning tool](https://www.synkro-app.com/documentation/product-cloning.md).

| Product property | What it controls |
| --- | --- |
| Title | The product title |
| Description | The product description (body content) |
| Vendor | The product vendor |
| Tags | The product's tags |
| Custom type | The product's (custom) product type |
| Images | The product's images |
| Videos (Vimeo or YouTube hosted) | Embedded Vimeo or YouTube product videos |
| Theme template | The theme template assigned to the product |
| Status | The product's status (active, draft, or archived) |
| Published on Online Store | Whether the product is published to the Online Store sales channel |
| Variants | Additions and changes to the product's variants |
| Variant deletion | Whether variant deletions are propagated |
| Metafields | The product's metafields |
| Publications | Which sales channels / publications the product is published to |
| Category (Taxonomy) | The product's standard Shopify product category (taxonomy) |

### Saving your changes

By default, every property is enabled (checked). To stop a property from syncing account-wide, uncheck it and click **Save** at the bottom of the page. Your new defaults apply to changes that occur after you save.

## Store-level sync settings

Sometimes a single store needs to behave differently from the rest of your account. **Store-level sync settings** let you override your Global sync settings for one store by disabling syncing for specific product or variant properties — without affecting your other connected stores.

### What store-level overrides do

When you disable a property for a store at this level, Synkro stops syncing that property for that store only. Specifically, it stops Synkro from:

- **Updating** the selected properties in this store for changes that originated in other connected stores (blocks **incoming** changes).
- **Syncing** changes to the selected properties that originated in this store out to your other connected stores (blocks **outgoing** changes).

In other words, a store-level override is a per-store "deny list" that blocks both directions of sync for the properties you select. It layers on top of your Global sync settings — anything you disable here is disabled for this store regardless of your account-wide defaults.

### Accessing your Store-level sync settings

Store-level settings are configured from within the specific store you want to customize. Open that store's Synkro settings, go to the **Syncing options** section, and click **Store-level sync settings**.

You'll see a list where you can select one or more product/variant properties to disable for that store. For example, selecting **Price** stops that store from sending or receiving price changes, even though **Price** remains enabled in your Global sync settings for every other store. Select the properties you want to disable and click **Save**.

### Example use cases

- **Region-specific pricing** — A store sells in a different currency or pricing tier. Disable **Price** and **Compare at price** at the store level so its prices stay independent while inventory and other properties continue to sync.
- **A store with its own product descriptions** — A storefront uses localized or differently-worded copy. Disable **Title** and **Description** for that store so its copy isn't overwritten by changes elsewhere.
- **A store that manages its own tags** — Disable **Tags** for a store that uses its own tagging scheme for merchandising or automation.

## Metafield syncing blacklist and whitelist

The **Metafields** product property controls whether Synkro syncs a product's metafields at all. If you need finer control — syncing some metafields but not others — each store also has a **Metafield syncing blacklist** and a **Metafield syncing whitelist**.

Both settings apply to the store you're configuring, and they work in both directions of product syncing:

- **As a child store** — they control which metafields Synkro is allowed to **overwrite in this store** when a metafield is updated on a parent product in another store (blocks **incoming** changes).
- **As a parent store** — they control which metafield changes on this store's parent products Synkro will **sync out** to child products in other stores (blocks **outgoing** changes).

For example, if a metafield is blacklisted in the parent store, changes to that metafield on the parent product won't sync to the child products in any child store.

### Pattern format

Both settings accept a comma-separated list of metafield patterns:

| Pattern | Matches |
| --- | --- |
| `namespace.*` | Every metafield in the given namespace |
| `namespace.key` | One specific metafield |

For example: `custom.*, reviews.rating, seo.hidden`

### Metafield syncing blacklist

Enter the metafield namespace and key combinations that **should not** be synced by Synkro for this store. Any metafield matching a blacklist pattern is:

- Left untouched in this store when it changes on a parent product in another store.
- Not synced to child products in other stores when it changes on a parent product in this store.

All other metafields continue to sync as usual.

Use the blacklist when you want most metafields to sync and only need to exclude a few.

### Metafield syncing whitelist

Enter the metafield namespace and key combinations that **should** be synced by Synkro for this store. Only metafields matching a whitelist pattern are synced — **all other metafields are ignored by Synkro**, both when they're updated on a parent product in another store and when they're updated on this store's own parent products.

Use the whitelist when you only want a small, specific set of metafields to sync into or out of this store.

### Example use cases

- **Store-specific SEO or merchandising metafields** — A child store maintains its own values in the `seo` namespace. Add `seo.*` to that store's blacklist so those values are never overwritten by the parent product.
- **Only sync product specifications** — A child store should only receive spec data from the parent. Add `specs.*` to that store's whitelist so every other metafield is ignored.
- **Keep internal metafields in the parent store** — A parent store uses an `internal` namespace for its own operational data. Add `internal.*` to the parent store's blacklist so changes to those metafields never sync to child products in other stores.
